Advantages of Hydroponic Gardening

Hydroponics is the process of soil free plant cultivation. This method of growing plants is usually done inside a greenhouse facility with the help of a nutrient solution. Hydroponic is a relatively new method of farming that has created a ripple in the farming sector around the world with a multitude of advantages over conventional farming. Many large scale farming sectors all around the world have shifted from traditional farming to hydroponic farming to increase the yield and quality of their produce. Given below are some of the advantages of hydroponics;

  • Soil-less cultivation: Hydroponics is all about soil-less cultivation. A garden without any soil leaves less chance for dirt and mess. You can spend time in your garden and need not worry about carrying soil borne germs inside your home.
  • Saving space: Hydroponics can be grown literally anywhere, from your balcony to a spare bedroom. It does not require a large amount of space to set up. In a time or space crunch, hydroponics serves the purpose of overcoming the challenge.
  • Year round growth: Since  hydroponics is a technique suitable for a greenhouse facility, the climate factors like temperature, humidity and sunlight can be easily controlled. This provides the hydroponic vegetables with suitable settings to grow throughout the year with no loss of the yield.
  • Save water: By adopting hydroponics, we can save approximately 90% of the water used in traditional farming. The high water saving capacity in hydroponics does not affect the plant yield. No amount of water is wasted in the hydroponics system.
  • Nutrient rich: Unlike traditional farming where a major amount of nutrients given to the plant seeps through the soil, hydroponics system feeds the nutrients directly to the root.
  • No pest and pesticides: The greenhouse facility protects the plants from pests and hence there is no need for pesticides. We can have chemical free fruits and vegetables from our own garden.
  • Higher yield: It has been proven that hydroponic cultivation gives you a better yield than traditional farming. In both quantity and quality, the fruits grown via hydroponics system are more evenly sized and healthier, with fewer wastage.

Some of the major farming industries have adopted to best hydroponic system for peppers, tomatoes, strawberries to name a few. Industries have found out that the produce are better quality that traditional farming and hence many industries are slowly shifting to this revolutionary farming method known as hydroponics.
